چکیده
Free tissue transfer (FTT) is a cornerstone of head and neck reconstruction. Although rare, complications FTT surgery can be devastating, including failed flap harvest, wound breakdown, or loss ultimately. Thus, modern microvascular surgeons bolster surgical clinical expertise with growing number technological advances to optimize patient care outcomes. These technologies applied in the preoperative, intraoperative, postoperative period. Various preoperative imaging modalities assist selecting optimal donor site advanced perforator planning. Intraoperatively, novel anastomoses, operative magnification visualization, assess free perfusion. Postoperatively, routine assessment augmented by variety adjunctive monitoring techniques designed health, arterial inflow venous drainage. The overall ease success performing improved employing at every phase process. This article will expand upon established upcoming existing literatures support their use.

Arterial coupling for microvascular free tissue transfer in head and neck reconstruction.
OBJECTIVE To demonstrate the efficacy of arterial coupling. DESIGN We report our experience in head and neck reconstruction with the Unilink Microvascular Anastomotic System (Synovis MCA, Birmingham, Ala). Data were collected in a consecutive series of 49 patients undergoing composite resection of head and neck tumors followed by free tissue transfer. SETTING All patient care took place at ...
متن کاملFree tissue transfer reconstruction of the head and neck at a Veterans Affairs hospital.
BACKGROUND The Veterans Affairs (VA) population is considered to have generally poorer health than its non-VA counterpart. METHODS We reviewed our experience with 55 consecutive patients undergoing free tissue transfers for head and neck reconstruction at the Dallas VA Hospital between July 2000 and September 2006, with 6 months' follow-up. RESULTS The overall success rate was 93% (51 of 55...
متن کاملThe role of free tissue transfer in the reconstruction of massive neglected skin cancers of the head and neck.
BACKGROUND Most skin cancers involving the head and neck region are easily managed with surgical resection and local flap rotation. Occasional patients present with massive neglected skin cancers or skin cancers that have recurred after multiple treatments. Management of these massive tumors may involve craniofacial resection, maxillectomy, or mandibulectomy to obtain clear margins. Reconstruct...
متن کاملAnalysis of operative mortality and post-operative lethal complications after head and neck reconstruction with free tissue transfer.
OBJECTIVE Operative mortality is the most important index for assessing operative results, which has rarely been examined in reconstructive surgery. The aims of this study were to establish a representative index of operative mortality after head and neck reconstruction and to consider measures to improve operative results. METHODS We reviewed cases of head and neck reconstruction by means of...
متن کاملMicrovascular free-flap transfer for head and neck reconstruction in elderly patients
BACKGROUND With the increase in life expectancy, the incidence of head and neck cancer has grown in the elderly population. Free tissue transfer has become the first choice, among all the reconstructive techniques, in these cases. The safety and success of micro vascular transfer have been well documented in the general population, but its positive results achieved in elderly patients have rece...
